Kojima statements on Twitter about how troublesome "PoliceNauts" was when it launched back in the mid 90s due to lack of sales

Kojima loves to talk on Twitter, and of course, everyone listens. You never know what new things you can learn when your following certain people. Like PoliceNauts. Ever heard of that one? If you haven't it's no surprise, since the project for it started years before it actually was released, and when released it was not well received. Too bad considering it's a pretty darn good title. The project was started in 1991, with screen writing, concept art, etc., but the entire game was not finished until a few years later. Upon its release in 1994 on the NEC PC-9821 in Japan, Kojima visited a store and noticed that there were no sales taking place for Policenauts. A disappointing prospect indeed, considering the lack of advertising for it.

Later the title ended up on the Playstation, Saturn, and 3DO, giving a greater audience a chance to enjoy such a fine game. On July 29, just a couple of days ago, Kojima made these statements about the trouble with Policenauts.

"MG1(87)"-"SNATCHER(88)"-"MG2(90)"-"SNATCHER CD(92)"-"POLICENAUTS(94〜96)". Was tough time for "POLICENAUTS" during company restructuring.

As matter fact, by '91, all the concept, screen writing and script (lite ver) of "POLICANAUTS" were already completed.

1994.7.29, "POLICENAUTS"PC9821 ver was released w/o anyone's attention.I went to store in Sannomiya on the launch day but no one was buying.

You can check out a couple of photos below and a video of Policenauts, and it just might make you want to dig further into a classic that time seem to have forgotten, if it ever noticed it in the first place. By the way, notice the Metal Gear and Solid Snake reference in the bottom picture. Product placement?
