Avi Arad says a finished Metal Gear movie is still 3 years away, and discusses a possible storyline plot involving Cain and Abel

It's been almost a year now, since the last time I even talked about the concept of a Metal Gear Solid movie, was last October, and even then the very idea of doing a movie based on Metal Gear was simply being toyed with as an idea, but then had actually gone into a sort of pre production. Hideo Kojima at the time was working with Marvel producer Avi Arad, a man known for his handy work in super hero based movies. The storyline for a Metal Gear movie, let alone who would play the role of Solid Snake was any person's guess at the time, and basically still is. But at least even after all this time we have a small piece of news regarding the matter.

Recently, the folks at Kotaku had a nice chance to sit down with Avi Arad, and ask some much need questions about the Metal Gear movie, and what could be involved with it.

"Converting games to film hasn't been done yet successfully, though Resident Evil did very well.....it was actually a great series. I remember when Bernd Eichinger started it," I was working with him, I just couldn't do that at Marvel but I had a good feeling about it, it's a fantastic franchise."

"If you go to Metal Gear Solid, it's actually full of storytelling. He says that, as a storyteller, he's always looking to operas or The Bible. "And with Metal Gear, you have Cain and Abel."

A Metal Gear movie is still in its infancy stages so far, very early says Arad. He is still predicting at least 3 more years down the road before the movie will hit the big screen. The main concern Arad pointed out was the conversion of games to movies. Just because you take a great selling game and turn it into a movie, without a decent story, you have a box office flop on your hands. Arad said he would be having dinner soon with Hideo Kojima, and discussions over the movie would take place then. Hopefully some new details will emerge after a meatball or two.

Hollywood has lost its shirt in the past doing the same thing. Lessons were learned, as costly mistakes were made. Not this time, and if time is what it takes for perfection in the Metal Gear world, I'm sure Solid Snake would agree.
