For years now, PES and FIFA have been going head to head for the right to claim soccer game of the year, while FIFA just kept on bringing the gold medal home. All while polishing it in front of the faces of die hard PES fans. This year might, just might be different, as even though the series has undergone some upgrades, face lifts, and other changes, they still had yet to compete with FIFA's leading edge. One of the main edges usually being their licensing agreements. Since EA has been somewhat of a king in the sports department, it seems a bit hard to beat them at their own game.
This year could be different, since Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 has not only been overhauled by the might Fox Engine, but also has introduced an all new play system. TrueBall and Heart are just for starters, along with an improved online experience, which also forbids cheaters from getting away with just that, cheating. But even though the addition of all of these nice things, in the wake of a non existent stadium editor, the lack of Spanish stadiums, and well, dry weather, "whether" you like it or not due to no rain might cause some issues for at least a few players, minus the die hard fan base out there.
The true side by side comparison starts tomorrow, with UK fans getting a first taste of PES 2014, followed by North America on the 24th. But tomorrow marks the day that the game play videos will start launching left and right on YouTube and heaven knows where else. It'll be interesting once again this year, and especially this year to see how the two titans stack up against each other. I myself am hoping that PES at least runs an even closer second to FIFA than it did last year, giving Konami a better foundation on which to build next year's game.
