Mobile games have started to take charge as one of the top gaming formats of all time. Even taking to challenge console games. When GREE makes a social mobile game, it usually lasts more than one year. Not so this time around. Last year Konami had made a deal with GREE to bring Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops to the mobile market. On December 4th 2012, they launched the title which raised some eyebrows in the process. A game where you move around on a 3D battle field, yet when it came to boss fights, it was a card based fight? An interesting concept.
December 13th of this year, just over a year later, Konami will shut down Social Ops for good. The reason being is likely that it just wasn't as popular with mobile gamers as some other franchises are. It still outlived a few titles from companies like Square Enix though. Not a bad call, but not as big a winner as some of the more popular titles. Perhaps in the future, Konami might bring it to another format like Xbox Live, or Playstation Network. No Metal Gear should pass into non existence forever. Let us reminisce below a bit.
