Visual expressions and a new control system will handle the open world setting that Hideo Kojima has in mind for Metal Gear Solid V

Since this is the first time in Metal Gear history the series has gone open world, a simple open world setting involves much more than just that. According to Hideo Kojima, you're going to need something to wash that Solid Snake sandwich down. Kojima has said recently that the developer is also working on a new control system, as well as visual expressions in the game to make the open world setting blend together more appropriately. In other words, it will help in explaining the open world setting for the player better. In an interview with Polygon, he made a few statements on the matter in regards to the games environment.

"I think the term 'open world' has taken on a life of its own and caused misunderstandings."

"Of course it's not going to be a game where Snake fishes all day or changes jobs and pursues a different life. The game map is an open world and you have freedom in that way, but in MGS5, it's clear what you're doing. That may be I have to help someone or Destroy this thing or Go gather intelligence at this spot. Some missions will have time limits, too."

Kojima went on in the interview to point out that the developer could only build the interior area of the place the user is infiltrating. Aside from this, Kojima pointed out that players will be able to bring along a "buddy" on some of the missions. Who this or "these" buddies are is still not known as of right now. I covered more of this in a previous post if you care to check it out.  It reveals a few more details to boot.
